Our two system types AAE-3000 and AAE-6000, which both work according to the One-Step-Activation & Energy-Recovery-Plus technology, differ essentially only in their production capacity.

The number after "AAE" gives an approximate indication of the plant's production capacity in tons of activated carbon per year. The exact production capacity then depends on the raw material and the desired degree of activation.

Naturally, the production capacity is significantly higher with low activation levels or the exclusive production of biochar, which does not require activation. The choice of the right type of system depends on the exact local and economic circumstances of the operator; we will be happy to advise you on your choice.

Regardless of which type of system you choose, whether you want to produce activated carbon, biochar or both alternately, whether you want to use the energy in the form of steam, electricity or hydrogen - the highest product quality and energy efficiency are always guaranteed.

Activated carbon

Activated carbon is an industrially produced harmless substance, consisting of almost pure carbon (min. 85 % C), which has a porous structure and an inner surface area of at least 400 m²/g (industrial use of 400-2000 g/m²).

Activated carbon is able to adsorb a wide range of substances. This means that the substances accumulate on the surface.

This build-up gives activated carbon the ability to bind unwanted components from a gas stream or liquid and thus purify them.

Activated carbon is used in a variety of areas, such as drinking water treatment, wastewater treatment, the food industry, the automotive industry, the chemical industry and exhaust air purification.

As the degree of activation increases, the inner surface of the activated carbon increases. And thus also their ability to bind the amount of unwanted substances.

Depending on the application and requirements, this activation level can be easily set in the AAE system types via the process control system without having to convert the system.

In this process, the carbon is partially gasified in a high-temperature rotary kiln at up to 1050°C with the addition of steam, which leads to the formation of pores in the carbon particles. The quantity, type and distribution of the internal pores subsequently define the degree of activation and the quality of the activated carbon.

This offers you as the operator maximum flexibility and convenience in the production of high-quality activated carbon.

Biochar

Biochar is a carbon produced from biogenic mass, often with carbon contents of 70-90%.

The biogenic mass, whether wood, fruit stone shells, olive stones or other carbon-containing raw materials, is heated at temperatures between 450°C-700°C in the absence of oxygen.

The temperature essentially determines the carbon content and therefore the quality of the product.

Thanks to their high-temperature design of up to 1050 C, both AAE plant types are therefore able to convert any biomass into biochar of the highest quality without any problems.

Customers can choose from various energy sources when selecting their energy use.

The simplest, cheapest and most effective form of energy utilization is the direct use of the steam generated in the system. If there are local consumers, e.g. on adjacent industrial sites, or if there is the possibility of feeding into a district heating network, this is the method of choice.

If this option is not available, or only to a limited extent, electricity generation using a steam turbine is an option. The electricity that you do not use yourself can simply be fed into the existing power grid as green electricity and thus sold.

If this is also not possible because there is no electricity grid or it is not possible to feed the electricity into the grid, using the electricity generated to produce hydrogen is an option that should be considered. The hydrogen can then be delivered by truck to the end consumer and sold.

We will be happy to look at the optimum choice of energy use with you and help you find the best way for your system.
